The Journey

The foundations of HistoryMedieval can be traced back to 2008 through the creation of an online history community that connected readers and enthusiasts with a shared interest in the medieval past. Over time, that early community evolved into a broader editorial vision centred on accessible, research-driven medieval history.

HistoryMedieval.com was formally launched as an editorial platform focused on medieval history, archaeology, timelines, daily life, and historical analysis. From the beginning, the emphasis was on combining historical accuracy with clear and engaging writing rather than academic jargon or sensationalism.

As the archive expanded, HistoryMedieval evolved beyond standalone articles into a broader editorial publication. New sections dedicated to book reviews, media accuracy, historical debates, and thematic series helped shape a more structured and recognisable identity within the medieval history space.

HistoryMedieval began working more closely with historians, authors, and publishers through written interviews, editorial reviews, and collaborative features. These partnerships helped position the platform as a growing independent voice dedicated to accessible public history grounded in credible research.

Today, HistoryMedieval reaches readers and followers across more than 110 countries through its website, newsletter, podcasts, and social channels. With a growing archive of articles and millions of organic search impressions, the platform continues to expand as an international destination for medieval history enthusiasts.

HistoryMedieval continues to grow as an independent platform dedicated to medieval history, archaeology, historical storytelling, and public scholarship. Through articles, podcasts, interviews, Substack publications, and the Timebound bookshop, the project aims to make the medieval world more accessible while remaining grounded in evidence, clarity, and respect for the historical record.
The journey continues — one manuscript, battle, discovery, and forgotten story at a time.
How We Work & Fund the Project
Supporting Independent Medieval History
HistoryMedieval is an independent medieval history publication supported through a combination of the following: affiliate partnerships with carefully selected booksellers; limited advertising and sponsorships; reader support through subscriptions and donations; and collaborations with publishers and academic institutions. These revenue streams help fund research, editorial reviews, historian interviews, website maintenance, and the continued production of freely accessible medieval history content.
Affiliate Links
Some links on HistoryMedieval may be affiliate links. If you purchase a book or product through one of these links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate programmes and networks we may use include: Amazon Associates, Barnes & Noble, Bookshop, and other book retailers, as well as aggregators, such as Skimlinks, AWIN, and other reputable affiliate partners where appropriate
Editorial Standards
HistoryMedieval is committed to publishing medieval history that is clear, readable, and grounded in credible research. Our articles draw on primary sources, modern scholarship, archaeological evidence, and reputable historical works wherever appropriate. We aim to make serious history accessible without oversimplifying it. That means avoiding sensationalism, unsupported myths, and misleading interpretations, while clearly distinguishing between established evidence, scholarly debate, and legend. Our coverage spans political history, warfare, religion, daily life, archaeology, manuscripts, literature, and the representation of the Late Antiquity period, the Middle Ages, and the begining of the Early Modern era in modern media. We also publish editorial book reviews, interviews, and commentary designed to encourage deeper engagement with medieval history. As an independent, reader-supported platform, HistoryMedieval may include affiliate links or sponsored content. However, editorial independence remains central to the project. Commercial partnerships do not influence historical conclusions, editorial opinions, or the accuracy standards we apply to our work. Our goal is simple: medieval history presented with clarity, context, and respect for the historical record.
AI-Assisted Research & Editorial Review
HistoryMedieval may use AI tools to assist with research, source checking, article planning, drafting and editorial review. AI-generated or AI-assisted editorial material is not treated as a historical source and is not published without substantive human review. Historical claims, sources and context are checked and may be amended, rewritten or rejected before publication. HistoryMedieval retains final editorial control and responsibility for all published content.
